India to become Suzuki’s export hub

BANGALORE: Like its sister concern in the car segment, Suzuki Motorcycles India (SMI), a 100% subsidiary of Japanese auto major Suzuki Motor Corporation, will make India an export hub for two-wheelers.

Suzuki plans to export both motorcycles and scooters to emerging two-wheeler markets where the annual demand is over a million units. Speaking to TOI, SMI VP (sales and marketing) Atul Gupta said, “India will be our hub for exports to Africa, South America and countries around India.’’ The company is currently evaluating the investments required to carry forward its plans.

This move is in line with Suzuki’s scheme in the four-wheeler market, where Maruti Suzuki is looking at India as an export hub for small cars. About 30% of its revenues are expected to be generated from exports. SMI has so far invested Rs 350 crore in India since its inception.
