UPDATED YAMAHA R3 SHOWN AT BIMS 2019; INDIA LAUNCH EXPECTED SOON

YAMAHA R3 IS SET TO GET A FACELIFT THIS YEAR AND THE INDIA-BOUND FACELIFT HAS BEEN SHOWCASED AT THE BANGKOK INTERNATIONAL MOTOR SHOW. 

Last year, Yamaha unveiled the updated YZF R3 at a Motorshow event. However, at that time, the details and changes were not known completely. At the ongoing BIMS 2019, the manufacturer has showcased the facelift with all the details. 

Most of the Yamaha premium motorcycles have receieved an update in the past 1-2 years. Similarly, the updated Yamaha R3 was launched back at the Auto Expo, which gave minor visual changes and dual-ABS. 

However, the new R3 gets inspiration from the flagship R1 superbike. A similar kind of design can be seen onboard. Also, the 2019 R3 will sport new features, but with the same engine.

Styling changes onboard includes addition of the Racing Blue colour option, revised front fender and a slightly tweaked fuel tank design. The clip-on handlebar goes down by 22mm, offering a fully dedicated riding position. 

The analogue instrument cluster on the current Yamaha R3 is replaced by a fully digital console. The digital screen shows information such as average fuel economy, gear position, gear shift indicator, tachometer and average speed. 

Lastly, it gets a faux air intake flanked by dual LED headlamps on both the sides. The rear portion and tail light design also receive minor revision for the 2019 update.

Despite all these changes, the engine specifications remain the same. The 2019 Yamaha R3 uses the same 312cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin cylinder engine. The motor produces 42 BHP at 10750 RPM and 29.6 Nm of peak torque at 9000 RPM. 

The current top speed of the R3 stands at 188 km/hr. Due to the revised front fairing, the claimed top speed now stands at 196 km/hr. 

For braking, it uses a 298mm disc at the front and 220mm disc at the back, paired with the dual-channel ABS. Instead of the golden USD forks from the Thailand-version, the upcoming facelift will continue with the telescopic forks at the front.

With all these upgrades, we expect a minor price hike of around Rs 5000-10000, on its current price of Rs 3.49 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
